Toowoomba Trails: Secret Stories & Places of WWII

Apr 25, 2024, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Toowoomba played a significant role during World War 2, acting as a hub for training, logistics, medical services, rest, and recreation, among other things. Many fascinating and often overlooked tales of Toowoomba's wartime legacy will be revealed, with questions surrounding Toowoomba's unexpected association with submarines and its 18 air-raid shelters, including why the defence of the East Coast was strategically planned from this city instead of Brisbane.

This ANZAC Day, Paul Herbert, a local guide, invites you to join him on an exploration of Toowoomba's captivating war history. Much of this history is still visible if you know where to look. The tour starts and finishes in different locations, so consider parking closer to the end of the route, at Clifford House. Don't forget to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the outdoors! All our tours conclude with a drink in a local pub or café, which is covered in the ticket cost. During World War 2 Toowoomba played a small, yet significant role, emerging as a pivotal hub for training, logistics, medical services, rest & recreation and much more.
