Creating the gap heritage - a trip through time

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how the gap suburb came to be what it is today, from the early settlers (whose names are honoured today by street names etc) through the early years up to the start of the residential suburb that is the gap today.

Residents could perhaps see photos of the land they now occupy as it was many years ago as farming land and so on. The display will cover many aspects of gap life, including the advent of schools, churches, shops, transport, post-world war 1 ‘soldier settlement’ and recreation. Also available for perusal and comment will be the society’s draft timeline of the gap, comprised of over 400 individual events to date.

The tour in the vintage bus will highlight sites of local importance with commentary by local historians – several of whom are directly descended from the pioneer families.

A special ‘heritage afternoon tea’ comprised of tea (coffee if required) and homemade biscuits will be included.

The society website will be available for those who may wish to delve further into particular families or events not included in the main program.

Whilst not essential bookings will help ensure visitors’ places on the bus and at afternoon tea.
