Engaging with Brisbane's Heritage Transport

Visitors will ride our oldest 3 Brisbane trams, 2 of which are over 100 years old, and will be able to go on conducted tours of the whole museum especially including the restoration workshop, trolley bus display and other museum areas not normally open to the public.

They will have unlimited rides on a “jumping jack (tram 65)” and a “matchbox (tram 47)” and a more modern “drop centre (tram 341)” and can ‘drive’ a tram on our new simulator!

Queensland omnibus and coach society will be conducting joy rides in a fully restored 1969 Leyland panther bus – formerly operated by Brisbane City Council – around the local area.

Visitors will see tram 136 (originally built in  1915) nearing completion of its restoration. Trolley bus 34 will also be on view in restoration, and visitors will be able to talk to the dedicated men who restore and maintain Brisbane’s heritage tram fleet.

Other trams and heritage maintenance vehicles will also be on display. These will include our 1939 scammel tow truck and our 1942 international tower wagon used for working on our overhead wires – a forerunner of the modern cherry-picker.

Additionally, the museum will display a range of historic items and memorabilia and photos.
